The new subject!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET THE FCE THIS YEAR?

An incredible opportunity

For the first time the students of first of Bachillerato have the opportunity to boost their English level even more and, hopefully, end up passing the First Certificate Exam. However, it’s a two-hour optional subject, which means that students have to work hard at home as well. Anyway, attending this subject does not assure you that you will be able to pass the FCE. The teachers (Mercedes and Paz)  just try to encourage you to be well prepared.

What is the FCE and how is it divided?

Do you know how hard the FCE assessment is? The First Certificate Exam (FCE) is a test designed by the University of Cambridge. This exam is divided in four parts: Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking. In my opinion, the most difficult part is the use of english part 4, sentence transformation. Do you agree?

When are the mock tests?

There are two mock tests before the real one. The first has just taken place on December the 12 and the second is going to be on February 20th. All the candidates have to attend both mocks and then, depending on the results, the teachers will decide whether  they can take the final test or not.

How long do the candidates have to do each part?

The students must do the Reading and Use of English in one hour and fifteen minutes. The writing section will take one hour and twenty minutes to write two compositions between 140-190 words. For the Listening (Parts 1-4), the candidates have forty minutes and, last but not least, the speaking test for which the candidates have fourteen minutes to answer the examiner’s questions.

Why have I chosen this subject?

I have chosen this optional subject because I personally think that it’s an incredible opportunity that the school gives us so we have to take advantage of it. I wish all the candidates will achieve their goals and get the best mark possible.
